Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the sector minister, recently made comments concerning the issuance of a timetable for persisted power outages. The Ministry of Energy has clarified these remarks.
In a press release released on Tuesday, March 26, Dr. Opoku Prempeh was only restating the facts, according to Kofi Abrefa Afena, the Minister’s spokesperson.
The legislator from Manhyia South urged supporters of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to release a load-shedding schedule to submit their own schedules during the New Patriotic Party (NPP) campaign team’s inauguration in the Ashanti Region.
If detractors felt it was necessary, he urged them to create their own schedules.
He questioned why a schedule was being made when the ECG has verified that no such plan exists.
The statement made clear that the Minister respects Ghanaians as has been his approach and that he did not want to denigrate citizens in spite of the public outcry over his remarks.
In the statement, Dr. Opoku Prempeh said that a timetable for the current power disruptions did not need to be released.
“The Minister dismissed the need for a load management time table because in his view and as indicated by the Electricity Company of Ghana, the causes of the temporary power challenges are being addressed.
“The Honourable Minister has always been sensitive to the plight of the Ghanaian people and continues to ask for their forbearance, as has always been the case when challenges relative to power stability emerge.
“The Ministry wishes to assure the general public that the Ministry as the policy maker and mother agency of the various power sector actors is working assiduously with these agencies to ensure that the temporary challenges are resolved,” the statement added.
