65% of Ghanaian voters say country is heading in wrong direction – Global InfoAnalytics survey

Ghanaian voters are generally unhappy with the country’s course, with the majority of respondents complaining that it is going in the wrong way, according to a recent Global InfoAnalytics opinion survey conducted for the first quarter of 2024.

According to the survey, 65% of voters are worried that Ghana is heading in the wrong path, which is significantly different from the 25% of respondents who are upbeat about the country’s future. All areas share this opinion, however the Volta, Greater Accra, and Western regions have very high percentages of people who express displeasure with the country’s direction (82%, 79%, and 86%, respectively).

Furthermore, 52% of voters think that the government performs in a very bad to poor manner when it comes to governance.

Voters are generally concerned about corruption; according to 52% of them, it has become worse under the NPP leadership.

Just 19% of respondents say their standard of life has improved over the last year, compared to 51% who believe it has declined.

Regarding institutional confidence, the poll indicates that voters have a greater level of faith in the Ghana Police Service and the Electoral Commission when it comes to election security and administration. Sixty-four percent of voters say they have faith in the Police Service, and fifty-nine percent say they have faith in the Electoral Commission.

Opinions on important issues are divided, with 67% of people directly benefiting from the Free SHS program. Nonetheless, a sizable 67% feel that, given the various obstacles, the policy needs to be reviewed. Comparably, attitudes on the contentious LGBTQ+ measure were divided, with 32% against it and 59% in favor of its adoption.

In addition, when it comes to possible electoral consequences, 37% of voters say that the President’s decision to not sign the LGBTQ+ law would affect their vote in the future elections, while 50% of voters think it won’t.
