Teacher Unions have sent warnings to the government and general public regarding potential problems with the nation’s pre-tertiary education system.

The Unions conveyed their dissatisfaction with the government’s approach towards the discussions over their service conditions through a unified statement.

The unions are the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), and the Coalition of Concerned Teachers (CCT).

However, the General Secretary of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), Thomas Musah, has said the government’s lack of preparedness is a betrayal of trust and a display of bad faith.

He claims that the teacher unions are becoming increasingly irate with the way the administration is conducting the negotiations.

Thus, in the event that the situation worsens and there is another strike at the pre-tertiary level, he has advised the people not to hold them responsible.

It is impossible to overstate the possible consequences of such a strike.

Pre-tertiary education disruptions may have far-reaching effects on the wellbeing and academic performance of numerous pupils nationwide.

“All these while, our negotiations have not achieved any meaningful outcome. More disappointing is the fact that the Government Team does not seem to have the requisite mandate to respond adequately to our demands.

“In the light of the above situation, we will like to caution the general public and the government that in the event of any brouhaha at the Pre-tertiary level, Teacher Union Leaders must not be blamed,” the Unions stated.
