Oliver Barker-Vormawor, a political activist, filed a motion with the High Court to have the GHc10 million defamation suit brought against him by the National Security Minister dismissed.
Judge Rev. Joseph Owusu-Adu Agyemang of the High Court ruled that the case was without merit.
In addition, the court granted Oliver Barker-Vormawor GHc10,000 in costs, even though Kan Dapaah’s attorneys had requested GHc20,000.
The court’s decision was based on a statement by Barker-Vormawor’s attorneys, who claimed that National Security Minister Albert Kan Dapaah had colored and inflated his application by using terms like “bribe” or “bribery.”
The defendant said that since such terms were eliminated from Kan Dapaah’s Statement of Claims, there was no basis for a defamation lawsuit.
They argued that a private citizen cannot bribe a public servant such as Kan Dapaah in accordance with his claim. The National Security Minister’s attorneys challenged the proposal and asked the court to reject it at a hefty penalty.
