With the growing energy crisis serving as the main rationale, the Institute of Energy Security (IES) has called for the immediate removal of Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the Minister of Energy.
IES’s Executive Director, Nana Amoasi VII, voiced her displeasure with the minister’s apparent lack of reaction to the difficulties facing the energy industry in a Citi FM interview.
Amoasi expressed disapproval of the minister’s seeming indifference to the seriousness of the energy crisis and questioned the necessity of his continuous attendance in such an important capacity.
“Where we have gotten to, there is no circuit and so what is the use of the minister in that space? He must be relieved, probably to concentrate on any other agenda he is bidding for. He must be relieved of his post. It is becoming too much. Is it not insulting with the statement that he made? Total disrespect to consumers,” Nana Amoasi VII stated.
He also urged swift action to resolve the energy crisis, emphasizing that the minister’s dismissal would be a first step in resolving the urgent problems the industry is now experiencing.
Spokesperson for the Energy Minister, Kofi Abrefa Afena says the call by Executive Director of the Institute of Energy Security, Nana Amoasi, for Energy Minister, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh to be removed stems from ignorance.
It is untrue, in Kofi Abrefa Afena’s opinion, that the Minister is disconnected from reality.
“Dr. Prempeh is not the talk too much type but believes in results. Nana Amoasi has no idea the sleepless nights of the Minister aimed at addressing the current challenges”, Abrefa said.
Kofi Abrefa contends that the current challenges are being resolved and soon the results will be visible for all and sundry to see.
“He claims that immediate action is necessary, but I find it difficult to understand Amoasi’s justification for dismissing the Minister. Did Kwabena Donkor’s resignation over John Mahama’s prevalent dumsor inevitably resolve the issue? Amoasi has to buckle down. It all comes down to solutions. Dr. Prempeh keeps working with the technical staff to come up with cooperative solutions.
The Spokesman restated the Minister’s appeal for the people of Ghana to exercise patience as all parties diligently attempt to resolve the short-term difficulties.
