On Saturday, June 8, 2024, two people were arrested during a fight between National Democratic Congress (NDC) and New Patriotic Party (NPP) supporters in Nkoranza South, Bono East Region.
Tensions with NDC supporters arose when a group from the Ashanti region and Accra COCOBOD arrived to arrange vote transfers.
Harriet Oppong Kyeremanteng, the NPP candidate, is charged with influencing the transfer process by transporting people, which is said to have resulted in altercations with the police.
Godfred Dapaah and Ali Adams, the leaders of the NDC, have voiced worries over the involvement of non-constituents and possible unlawful vote transfers.
Security personnel and the Electoral Commission have been ordered to make sure the vote transfer procedure is carried out legally and equitably.
Concerns over the peaceful conduct of elections are raised by the event, which brings to light persistent animosity between NDC and NPP supporters in the region.”
Security forces and the EC have called for caution, and NDC leaders have issued warnings as a result of the transportation of voters from other regions and the deployment of “macho men” that have inflamed the situation.
