The Technical University (KsTU) has distanced itself from a survey predicting a win for Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in the 2024 presidential elections, stating that they had no knowledge of the survey.
According to Kwabena Danso-Dapaah’s investigation, the university claims that the survey was not sanctioned or funded by the institution, and its findings do not represent the views of KSTU.
The survey in question, conducted by Professor Smart Sarpong with the institution, predicted that Dr. Bawumia would secure victory in the December 7 polls.
According to the poll, which was conducted in April 2024, the NDC holds 38.8% of the votes when it comes to popularity, while the New Patriotic Party (NPP) follows closely with 34.5%.
The survey, a baseline report on 275 constituencies, had a total sample size of 59,547, selected from the full 275 sub-samples. Each sub-sample represents a proportional share of the total contribution to the voter population per the 2020 voter register.
It also showed that 23.1% remain undecided, while smaller parties, collectively, hold a marginal 3.6% of voter support, 3news.com reports
However, a deep-throat source at the university has denied any involvement or endorsement of the survey.
According to multiple sources, KsTU emphasized its commitment to remaining neutral and impartial in political matters, urging the public to disregard any surveys or predictions made by individuals associated with the university.
The denial comes amid concerns of political bias and the potential impact on the institution’s reputation.
The university has reminded its staff and students to remain politically neutral and refrain from engaging in any political activities that may compromise the institution’s integrity.
This development highlights the importance of credible and transparent research practices in Ghana’s political landscape.
The renowned journalist earlier cautioned the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia against relying on fake opinion polls to boost their political fortunes.
Kwabena Danso-Dapaah cited the recent polls conducted by Professor Smart Sarpong as a prime example of the dubious surveys being circulated.
“These polls are nothing but a sham, designed to deceive the public and prop up the image of certain political figures,” the journalist asserted.
The reporter cautioned that relying on such polls could lead to a false sense of security and ultimately harm the NPP’s chances in future elections.
“The NPP and Dr. Bawumia must be wary of these fake polls and focus on genuine engagement with the electorate rather than relying on manipulated statistics,” the Kumasi-based journalist advised.
