If John Dramani Mahama, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, wins the general elections in 2024, he has promised to lower the cost of the Hajj.
The former president emphasized that many common Muslims are unable to complete their Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca because of the hefty cost of the current GH¢75,000 Hajj fee.
He committed to this during Sunday’s Eid prayers in Accra on the State House forecourt alongside the Ahlussuna Wal-Jamah Muslim group.
“Our pilgrims are in Mecca performing the Hajj. May Allah bring them safely home to us. Those who have been able to go are the privileged ones because we have had fares at GH¢75,000.
“It is very difficult for the ordinary Muslim to perform the Hajj but Insha Allah if we win in this election and we come into government, we are going to work to reduce the Hajj fare so that everybody can go,” he stated.
John Mahama also emphasized that, despite the present economic challenges, fathers should be recognized for their contributions.
