The National Democratic Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, has declared his intention to scrap a number of government initiatives that he believes are inefficient, including the much supported “One Village, One Dam” program.
Mahama underscored that the reallocation of monies from these projects would facilitate major expenditures in endeavors that have the potential to enhance the country’s economic growth and yield substantial revenue.
In light of the ongoing economic challenges, the former president emphasized the critical necessity for intelligent financial decisions and fiscal discipline.
He chastised the present administration for not cutting back on government spending and for concentrating primarily on generating money rather than tackling the underlying causes of financial inefficiencies.
He promised that all inefficient projects and endeavors would be scrapped and money would be transferred to more lucrative ones if he were to win the general elections on December 7.
“This government made many mistakes and we find ourselves in this crisis again and we need to cut down expenditure. This government is not willing to cut expenditure. In a crisis, you slash expenditure and increase revenues.
“All they are doing is increasing revenues but without reducing expenditure. We are going to eliminate all those wasteful projects; One Village, One Dam and all those things that they spent billions on so that we can use that money in the more productive sectors to make the economy grow again. Like Planting for Food and Jobs.”
