Nana Asante Bediatuo, the executive secretary to the president, has been named an ambassador-at-large.

On Monday, June 24, at a ceremony conducted at the Jubilee House, Mr. Bediatuo was given his new position.

In 2017, he assumed the role of Executive Secretary to President Akufo-Addo.

An ambassador-at-large is a person appointed on a special mission who is not tied to a specific diplomatic position.

The President honored nine recently appointed diplomats during the event as well.

He asked them to aggressively advance Ghana’s interests and reputation overseas.

“Your primary responsibility is to promote the image of Ghana as a stable, peaceful, and forward-looking country,” President Akufo-Addo said.

Three High Commissioners and five Ambassadors make up the group of appointees, who are all tasked with the vital responsibility of representing Ghana in other nations and international organizations.

According to the president, “This entails engaging with your host nations to foster strong bilateral relationships, attract investments, and advocate for the interests of Ghana.”

He stressed that “High Commissioners-designate and Ambassadors-designate, your postings have come at a particularly critical juncture not only in global affairs but also in the journey of our nation’s development.”

“The world is gradually emerging from the shadows of the COVID-19 pandemic, which has left a profound impact on all facets of life.”

The recently designated envoys are: Mr. Henry Tachie-Menson, the ambassador-designate to Belgium and the EU; Mrs. Charity Gbedawo, the ambassador-designate to Morocco; Ms. Abigail Naa Adzoko Kwashi, the ambassador-designate to Norway; Dr. Robert Afriyie, the ambassador-designate to Ethiopia and the African Union; Mrs. Francisca Ashietey-Oduntun, the high commissioner-designate to South Africa; Mr. Ernest Yaw Amporful, the high commissioner-designate to Rwanda; Major General Nicholas Peter Andoh, the ambassador-designate to Türkiye; and Nana Bediatuo Asante, the ambassador-at-Large.
