The NDC’s head of Civil Society Organizations (CSO) and inter-party affairs, Dr. Peter Boamah Otokunor, has emphasized the revolutionary potential of Ghana adopting a 24-hour economy.

He said this in Accra at a meeting with CLOSSAG, when Dr. Otokunor discussed the policy’s potential significant effects on Ghana’s economy.

“The 24-Hour Economy will herald an economic change in Ghana’s potential to significantly curb unemployment and drive sustainable economic growth across various sectors,” he said.

Dr. Otokunor also restated that the core of President Mahama’s 24-Hour Economy strategy is Ghana’s transition to a three-shift work pattern in order to become an export-led and self-sufficient economy.

In addition, he delineated particular steps—such as legislative backing, tax breaks, and rules—that would enable enterprises to operate around the clock.

Along with favorable conditions for businesses taking part in the program, he also pledged financial help for key industries and lower electricity rates during off-peak hours via the “Time of Use Tariff.”

“We must leverage key input costs such as power and raw materials,” Dr. Otokunor emphasised.

“By incentivizing companies through targeted policies, we can ensure that the benefits of a 24-hour economy are maximized.”

Dr. Otokunor informed stakeholders that extensive frameworks will be put in place to enable firms moving to round-the-clock operations in response to concerns around implementation and practicality.

Stakeholders in CLOSSAG have endorsed the plan, seeing it as a critical step in Ghana’s transformation into a regional economic powerhouse.

Proponents contend that Ghana can solve urgent social issues like unemployment and realize its full economic potential by optimizing worker use and operational efficiencies.
