Herbert Krapa, the Minister of State-designate at the Ministry of Energy, has been asked to be approved by Parliament beforehand by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
The letter, which is addressed to Speaker of the Parliament Alban Bagbin, contains the request.
“I am writing to seek parliamentary approval for the appointment of Herbert Krapa as Minister of State at the Ministry of Energy, in accordance with article 78 of the Constitution.”
“It has been the practise for some time, for the Ministry of Energy to be populated, by a substantive Minister and three deputy ministers. In view of the exceptionally heavy workload now attendant at the Ministry, it has become necessary to appoint a Minister of State at the Ministry, in the person of Herbert Krapa, who is currently a deputy minister,” the letter said.
Herbert Krapa was the Board Chair of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and the deputy minister of energy prior to his appointment.
