The Director-General of the TVET Commission, Dr. Fred Kyei Asamoah, has taken a giant step towards refilling what, unconsciously, appears an overlooked facet in human resource development, Mentorship.
In most advanced economies, mentorship now serves as central pivot around which entrepreneurial/professional skill development revolves. Hence, the Silicon Valley in USA. And to reinforce government’s policy directive to transform mid-level manpower needs of the country, which has given birth to massive improvement in technical and vocational education and training (TVET) in the country, Dr. Fred Kyei Asamoah led the Asante Professional Club, a group of privileged working professionals who dedicate some precious times to avail themselves as role models/mentors to refill this important, but neglected, missing link in community development, to the Akomadan Senior High School in the Ofinso North District of the Ashanti Region for their maiden Schools Outreach Program.
Dr. Fred Kyei Asamoah recounted his humble beginning to students of the participating schools, which included all Senior High Schools within the district, and urged them to look up to, not only their parents or close relatives, but others who have attained higher heights, and emulate their good examples, for he believes and students must also understand that it is education that would help liberate them from the shackles of poverty.
‘This means everyone of you here could be better off than any of us. This is why scientists say that everyone’s DNA is different. What it means is that, everyone can become what they aspire to be. But same needs to work harder as family riches is never an automatic hereditary.’ Dr. Kyei advised.
Dr. Fred Kyei Asamoah, an indigene of Akomadan, presented two boxes of one most essential material in his life ‘The Pen’ to all the students. He reminded them that, cost of the item is not as important as what it would remind them of.
He further warned them to desist from any form of examination malpractice. And reiterated his readiness to extend helping hands to the overall best student in the district from AKUSS who had 6As in last year’s WASSSCE.
Present to grace the occasion were the Asante Professional Club team members and the Headmasters of Akomadan and Nkenkaasu Senior High Schools. This is just one of the various intervention’s Dr Asamoah has instituted for the people of Offinso North. We say, kudos and very big thank you for this selfless gesture.
