John Mahama, the leader of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has advised Ghanaians to stay away from the type of unrest that is occurring in Kenya right now, where large-scale demonstrations over tax increases have resulted in calls for the resignation of President William Ruto.

Mr. Mahama underlined how critical it is to address the challenges Ghanaians confront and pledged quick action to boost the country’s economy.

“The people of Ghana are looking at NDC to come and rescue them from the hardships in which they have been plunged…We will do things that will turn the economy around as quickly as possible,” Mahama stated.

Mr. Mahama promised the people that an NDC government would generate many opportunities, especially for the youth, and criticized the Akufo-Addo-led government for what he saw to be economic mismanagement during a working visit to the La Dadekotopon constituency.

“They say Africa’s population is youthful and it’s important to have a youthful population. But if you have a youthful population and you’re not creating opportunities for them, then it can become a timebomb,” the NDC flagbearer stated.

“We have all seen what is happening in Kenya, we don’t want that to happen in Ghana. And so, when we come, things are going to be different. It’s not going to be business as usual; we want to be a government in a hurry to repair the mess created by Bawumia and Akufo-Addo” Mahama added.
