The late Prof. John Evans Atta Mills was devoted to uplifting the less fortunate, according to National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer John Mahama.

In a Facebook post, the former president revealed that, while in office, his late boss also provided funding for social welfare initiatives.

“My boss, President John Evans Atta Mills, was a selfless leader. He prioritized the needs of the nation over personal and political gain. When he took over from the NPP government, he was the first to cut his own salary as a sincere gesture to show solidarity with the economic hardships faced by many Ghanaians”, the former President stated.

Mr. Mahama continued: “He was passionate about lifting the vulnerable and duly allocated resources to social welfare programmes.”

According to him, the late former President also displayed a high level of integrity.

“He was a man who epitomized truth and honesty. From his life in Academia to his time as the IRS Commissioner, to becoming Vice President, and throughout his presidency, he lived as he preached transparently!

“His reputation for integrity was widespread nationally and internationally. Forever in our hearts, Professor Mills.”
