Ebenezer Dwamena, the 2024 New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for the Twifo Ati-Morkwa Constituency, and two other individuals have been placed under police arrest by the Assin Kyekyerwere Circuit Court.

Section 131 of the Criminal and Other Offenses Act 1960 (Act 29) charges the accused individuals with conspiracy to defraud by false pretense and false pretenses.

The purpose of the remand order issued by presiding judge Her Ladyship Esq. Sophia Priscila Yeboah is to give the police time to transmit the case docket to the Attorney General’s Office for advice.

They were placed under two weeks of detention and are scheduled to return to court on August 13, 2024.

The attorneys for the accused had expressed doubts over the circuit court’s jurisdiction to hear the case, pointing out that the sum at stake was more than Gh¢300,000.

Following Ebenezer Dwamena’s remand into police detention, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Twifo Atti-Morkwa, Central Region, has promised to provide him the assistance he needs.

Twifo Atti-Morkwa’s party constituency communication officer claims that following Dwamena’s successful purchase of a car from the dealer, he brought some acquaintances to the dealer.

After the auto dealer successfully transferred funds into his account, the buyers forced him to show the vehicle, which resulted in a court battle that resulted in the remand of the parliamentary candidate.
