Dr. Samuel Ofoso Ampofo, the former chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has disclosed that one of his biggest regrets from his time in office is not being able to get the NDC back into government.

Dr. Ampofo emphasized in an interview with Bola Ray on Starr Chat that the results would have been different in certain seats had there not been deaths, police violence, and disruption of a free and fair voting environment.

The NDC would have overwhelmingly shifted the balance in their favor by winning a legislative majority.

“I am saying that in the absence of police brutalities and killing of people and making sure that the environment for free, fair, and transparent elections did not happen in those constituencies, we would have won the parliamentary majority. And that would have turned the scale in our favor

“The results that were achieved, both at the presidential and parliamentary. You know, in the history of this country, it’s the first time that a party within four years has been able to improve their total vote by over two million. Yes, under my leadership. We were able to improve our vote from 4.2 to about 6.3 million in four years”, he remarked.

Dr. Ampofo continued by saying that he was unsure which 2020 outcomes might be considered the definitive ones.

The former National Chairman of the NDC said, “There was a lot of back and forth, with changes being made multiple times, and all we wanted was for the woman to stand trial, to come and explain the reasons to the Supreme Court.”

Dr. Ampofo underlined that the NDC would not have been able to win in a number of constituencies that they had first lost if they had not aggregated their results.

He continued by explaining that there was a problem with the way the Electoral Commission tabulated the votes and came up with the final results, and that the NDC had taken the election results to court in order to seek legal remedy.
