As Ghana gets ready for the general elections in 2024, National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer John Dramani Mahama has reassured the people of his steadfast commitment to peace.
Speaking during the Assemblies of God Church’s 31st Biennial General Council meeting, which was hosted at the CK Tedam University of Technology and Applied Sciences (CKT-UTAS) in Navrongo, Upper East Region, Mr. Mahama reiterated his commitment to preserving a calm election environment.
“As we go into another election, there is often a general sense of apprehension that something will go wrong. As a member of your church, I can assure you and pledge that I am a person of peace, and if there is any violence, it won’t come from me. I will do everything to ensure that Ghana remains peaceful,” he pledged.
Mahama underscored the significance of upholding tranquility during the voting process, stressing that political authority must not be obtained at the expense of Ghanaians’ lives or welfare.
“If you resort to violence, it is the same people you are coming to govern. And so, I don’t think that even a single drop of any Ghanaian blood is worth political power or coming into office,” Mahama said.
More than 2,500 pastors and delegates, both domestic and international, applauded his statement for his dedication to guaranteeing a peaceful election.
