The National Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate John Mahama has reacted to the assertion made by his main political rival, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, that the nation required an upgrade rather than a reset, contending that an upgrade cannot be supported by a malfunctioning system.

Speaking during his party’s Professional Forum House-to-House Campaign, the NDC leader used a succinct illustration for clarifying his “reset” message.

“I’ve said that this is a reset. Somebody says an upgrade. But how do you upgrade something that is broken? If the engine is faulty, how do you upgrade it? You need to reset the engine properly and put it in the shape where it can be upgraded,” Mahama told the supporters.

The presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the December elections, Mahamudu Bawumia, has said that he is the leader who best symbolizes Ghana’s future and that the country needs an upgrade rather than a reset.

Bawumia presented his vision for the nation to the media on Sunday, August 25, emphasizing the necessity of progressive reform. He said, “I represent the future, and Ghana needs an upgrade, not a reset.”

“What this country needs is an upgrade, not reset. And if given the mandate, I will roll out the measures outlined in our recently launched manifesto to revamp the economy.

“Sometimes I get amazed when former president Mahama talks about economic mismanagement. He should know his own record,” he added.

But former President Mahama believed that a comprehensive reset that included changes to the way the government operates was necessary for the nation to advance, rather than only an economic one.

“Our attitudes need a reset. People didn’t notice I added attitudes. You don’t upgrade attitudes,” he maintained. “You reset attitudes and correct them.”
