A storehouse in the Job 600 building in Parliament was damaged after a fire started early on Tuesday, August 27, 2024.

Investigations is still being done to pinpoint the precise origin of the fire as well as the magnitude of the damage.

As members of the Ghana National Fire Service attempted to put out the fire, thick smoke could be observed rising from a few offices.

While emergency personnel handled the incident, building staff and workers were quickly evacuated to predetermined assembly sites.

A fire that destroyed a room at the 12-story Job 600 building at the State House in Accra has been under control, according to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS).

At the moment, three fire engines have been sent to the location.

In a succinct Facebook message, the GNFS reported that all inhabitants had been safely evacuated.

“The fire which broke out in an office on the second floor of the Job 600 block earlier this morning (27 August), caused partial damage to office documents and books. The gallant firefighters successfully extinguished the blaze with no injuries reported,” the statement said.

“The remaining offices on the affected second floor and their contents were salvaged by the adept firefighters. Investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.”

“The swift response of the Firefighters is highly commended for preventing further damage,” the statement added.

President Akufo-Addo put Job 600 into service as an addition to the Parliament Chamber in November 2020.

In order to alleviate the long-standing infrastructure issues that Parliament has encountered, the building was built as part of the Parliament House Physical Infrastructure Enhancement Project.
