Mustapha Gbande, the Deputy General Secretary overseeing operations for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has disparaged the present Electoral Commission (EC) leadership, calling it “dangerously incompetent.”
He issued a warning that political instability and the undermining of Ghana’s democracy might result from the EC’s mistakes.
“The current Electoral Commission, apart from the fact that some of them are political affiliates, have demonstrated dangerous incompetence.
Their incompetence can undermine the democracy of this country. Their incompetence can take away lives. I cannot rate them because it is beyond what I can rate” Gbande stated.
During an interview with Joy News TV, situated in Accra, he revealed these facts.
He argued that competency and rigorous adherence to norms should be the foundation of trust and questioned the rationality of putting faith in an organization he believes to be inept.
In addition, Mr. Gbande chastised the EC for its management of security shortcomings and administrative mishaps, noting instances in which unapproved voter data transfers transpired and gadgets were purportedly taken from the Commission’s offices without any notice.
“This is an Electoral Commission that sits at the headquarters, people enter its offices, steal devices, and they said they are not aware. This is a Commission that sits down, its officers transfer information and they say they are not aware. They call that an honest mistake,” he added.
