President Akufo-Addo has been urged by the Minority in Parliament to give an urgent address to the people about the current situation of the environment in Ghana.

The Nation’s natural resources, such as its forests, water bodies, and land, are rapidly degrading, and the Minority feels that the highest level of government must take urgent notice of the situation and take appropriate action.

Speaking to the media on Tuesday, September 3, Alhassan Suhuyini, the ranking member of Parliament’s Lands and Natural Resources Committee, raised concern about what he saw as the government’s delay in addressing environmental issues including pollution, deforestation, and illicit mining.

He criticized the administration for its inability to adequately enforce environmental laws, which has resulted in the ongoing devastation of essential ecosystems that are essential to the nation’s sustainable growth.

The lawmaker from Tamale North emphasized that Ghanaians’ livelihoods and health are seriously threatened by the continuous deterioration of the environment.

He asked the President to present specific actions to deal with these problems, such as restoration plans and more stringent enforcement of environmental regulations.

“We wish to therefore call on our lame duck president who checked out long ago and the clueless vice president, who is only focused on merely winning an election to at least dismiss the ministers responsible for Science and Environment and MLNR to signal their disappointment and the indignation of the people.”

“Anything short of that will mean our suspicions that galamsey is a regime-sponsored and supported rape of the state is true. We also demand a statement from the president on the state of our environment immediately. It’s critical to our survival as a nation,” Suhuyini added.
