The recent District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP) in the Gomoa West District resulted in violent incidents during the commissioning of earth-moving machinery.

While specifics of the altercation are yet unknown, rumors suggest that participants were from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

An explanation of the events was provided to media by Bismark Nkum, the District Chief Executive and NPP Parliamentary Candidate for Gomoa West.

He said that when sitting member of parliament Richard Gyan-Mensah came with a few irate NDC party members, the president of the Gomoa Akyempim Traditional Council and the Gomoa Assin Traditional Council were prepared to commission the machines.

The MP allegedly interrupted the event with a gun, chains, and a cutlass, according to Mr. Nkum.

“This guy is one of the operators, people who have been trained and the MP himself hit him with a gun. So, a whole MP, we sent you go to Parliament, the leader of Gomoa West, and you come and pull a pistol in the full glare of the police.

“We want the police to find out whether that pistol is licensed or not? If it is licensed, let’s ask whether he has the authority to do what he did with that pistol,” the DCE stated.

However, Gomoa West MP Richard Gyan-Mensah refuted the claims.

He denied rumors that he went the premises with a pistol and said that if he had used violence, the police would have intervened.
