The Electoral Commission’s (EC) ability to guarantee a secure and legitimate registration process is seriously questioned, according to the National Democratic Congress (NDC), which has reinforced requests for an independent audit of the 2024 voter registration.
This demand was stated by Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, the NDC’s Director of Elections and IT, during a meeting with civil society organizations and other stakeholders, when the party presented its critical remarks on the existing register.
“It’s not just a matter of fixing the errors but also the vulnerabilities inherent in the register,” Dr. Boamah noted on Monday, 3 September 2024.
He said that the party no longer trusted the EC and voiced concerns about its dependability and trustworthiness as key problems that impact the election process.
The NDC’s demand for an impartial audit highlights a larger worry about the fairness of the impending elections and emphasizes how urgently changes must be made to rebuild public trust in the electoral process.
