Bernard Mornah, the disqualified presidential candidate, is claiming that despite meeting all standards and going above and above in his nomination submission, the Electoral Commission unfairly prevented him from running in the polls on December 7.

The flagbearer for the People’s National Convention (PNC) finds it puzzling that the EC disqualified him despite his meticulousness and accepted the nomination of Madam Akua Donkor, the flagbearer for the Ghana Freedom Party.

In an interview on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, he told Citi FM’s Umaru Sanda Amadu, “It’s amazing that my mother Akua Donkor, seems to be more proficient than me.”

He went on to remark, “She went and picked 3 and she turned the 3 into F, and she is more qualified to be on a presidential ballot paper,” about the EC’s approval of the farmer against him.

Bernard Mornah, meantime, has filed a lawsuit against the Electoral Commission (EC) seeking to be removed from the presidential contest in the impending December elections.

He claims that the procedure of his disqualification violated his rights, was unlawful, and did not follow the legal standards for due process.

Bernard Mornah requested “an order of mandamus compelling the 2nd respondent to declare the 1st applicant as duly nominated to contest the 2024 public presidential elections” in a court document.

Eleven of the twenty-four candidates who submitted their nominations to run in the 2024 presidential election were ruled ineligible because they neglected to make the necessary corrections on their nomination papers, according to a statement released by the Electoral Commission on Friday, September 20, 2024.

However, Bernard Mornah claims that he did meet all of the EC’s standards, unlike other candidates that he is aware of, making his exclusion an injustice.
