Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, the vice presidential candidate for the NDC, has advised prospective nurses and midwives not to give in to what she refers to as transient government inducements.
During her second visit of the Western Region, she spoke to trainee nurses in the Ellembele Constituency and urged them to put long-term goals for a better future ahead of short-term pledges made to win votes.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang lambasted the present administration, saying it has failed Ghanaians in the health sector, and emphasized the former NDC government’s dedication to healthcare throughout her speech.
“You know we will not stand here and make false promises. We all know that we have a broken economy, and we all know that things are tough. We all know that for the first time, Ghana is not paying its debt and yet we cannot even meet our domestic needs.
“We are in serious trouble and it is only all of us together, having recognised that we are in difficulty, can work slowly towards the norms that we are used to and make things even better.
“Yet, this is the time for people to bring money around, forgetting that there is an uncompleted male hostel. Why are they not using the money to finish that? Have they forgotten that the lecturers do not have places to stay? Have they forgotten that you need a skills lab?
“So, you are a healthcare provider and you want to progress, and know where your vote should go. Don’t listen to the temporary inducement,” Prof Jane Naana added.
