Ghana inflation hits 21.5% in September

As of September 2024, the annual rate of inflation has risen from 20.4 percent in August 2024 to 21.5%.

The increase has been ascribed by the Ghana Statistical Service to an increase in food inflation.

In August 2024, food inflation increased from 19.1% to 22.1%.

But from 21.5% in August 2024 to 20.9% in August 2024, non-food inflation decreased.

Inflation has decreased for five straight months before to the recent increase.

According to the analysis, both imported and locally manufactured goods saw higher inflation.

The percentage of inflation on imported goods rose from 16.1% in August to 17.0%, while the percentage of inflation on domestically produced goods decreased from 22.2% in August 2024 to 23.4%.

While tobacco, alcohol, and drugs represented 27.6% of the total, restaurants and lodging services recorded 27.9%.

Additionally, 26.4 percent was reported for housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels, while 23.7 percent was reported for education services. Food and non-alcoholic drinks were reported at 22.3%, while health was recorded at 22.3%.

The items’ inflation rates were greater than September 2024’s total inflation rate of 21.5%.
