The intended strike by the organized Labour on October 10 against the illegal mining popularly known as galamsey has been suspended.

The Trade Union Congress’s (TUC) Secretary General, Joshua Ansah, made this announcement on Wednesday.

The Congress made the announcement in Accra, stating that it had made the decision after meeting with the government and receiving improved steps to bolster the effort to combat illicit mining.

The industrial group said a few days ago that it was moving forward with its action because it was dissatisfied with the government’s actions.

The President has instructed the Lands Minister to petition Parliament to revoke L.I. 2462, Mr. Ansah said in his statement to union members.

He said that Ghana has demonstrated sufficient commitment by deploying military to aid in the battle and by setting up 14 courts to try those illicit miners who were detained.

The head of the TUC also stated that if the government broke their word, organized labor would retaliate.
