Dan Kweku Yeboah and his media company, Peace FM, are the targets of a defamation lawsuit filed by former Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kwesi Nyantakyi.
The case, which was filed on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, asks for damages of 10 million cedis. Former FIFA Council member Nyantakyi is contesting Yeboah’s charges that he embezzled $2 million from the GFA, which he vehemently disputes as unfounded and slanderous.
Nyantakyi’s lawsuit targets Pulse Ghana and GhanaWeb in addition to Yeboah and Peace FM. These media organizations are charged with spreading and exaggerating Yeboah’s claims without checking their veracity.
Nyantakyi wants to hold these platforms responsible for what he believes to be careless reporting that damaged his image, which is why he is bringing them into the case.
The lawsuit filed by the former GFA President emphasizes his position that the embezzlement charges lack a factual foundation. Nyantakyi, who quit his job amid controversy, claims that the accusations have seriously damaged his reputation. He calls the claims careless, highlighting the necessity of truthful reporting and journalistic accountability.
The defamatory character of Yeboah’s and the participating media outlets’ statements is described in the court brief Nyantakyi submitted. It draws attention to a particular allegation that Nyantakyi took $2 million out of GFA’s Unibank accounts for his own purposes.
Nyantakyi strongly refutes these allegations, stating that they are unfounded and have unfairly harmed his reputation.
