Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has criticized his rival, John Dramani Mahama, for what he calls an antiquated strategy for economic expansion.
He suggests that the NDC flagbearer’s resistance to digitalization renders him unsuited to lead in a technologically advanced world.
On Sunday, November 3, 2024, Dr. Bawumia addressed a youth gathering and said that Mr. Mahama’s undervaluation of digitalization’s contribution to economic advancement is indicative of a backward-looking viewpoint, which he says caused earlier economic difficulties under Mr. Mahama’s administration.
In the forthcoming December elections, Dr. Bawumia asked Ghanaians to vote against Mr. Mahama in favor of digital innovation.
“Today, he [Mahama] says there’s no link between digitisation and the economy. Right? How can that be?” Dr. Bawumia questioned.
“In this 4th industrial revolution, how can we have a leader who doesn’t appreciate the value of digitisation, in a digital global economy?”
By challenging Mr. Mahama’s comprehension of important economic forces, the NPP candidate emphasized his worries.
He claimed that he shouldn’t be permitted near the president.
He went on: “A leader who doesn’t understand the modern world of digitization wants to be president of a country like ours, trying to move forward into the future, no.”
Dr. Bawumia also criticized Mahama’s focus on infrastructure as his crowning accomplishment, contending that the NPP’s digital-first strategy is more advantageous for Ghana’s economic future.
“Mahama has touted infrastructure as one of his achievements, but because our infrastructure is superior to his. Today, he says infrastructure doesn’t matter for the economy. That the economy is different from infrastructure, how can that be?
“For someone who has been President of Ghana to say the infrastructure doesn’t have anything to do with the economy then I understand why the economy collapsed under his watch,” he added.
