Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and Asantehemaa Nana Konadu Yiadom III had a courtesy call from Mrs. Lordina Dramani Mahama, the wife of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate.
The purpose of the visit, according to Mrs. Mahama, was to seek the royal family’s permission for her husband, John Mahama, and to let them know that she intends to campaign in Asanteman.
“As we all know, my husband, your son, John Mahama, is contesting for the presidency in December.”
“I always feel at home every time I visit Manhyia, as Asantehemaa has been like a mother to me,” She emphasized the significance of obtaining the royal family’s blessings prior to interacting with Ashanti Region stakeholders.
In response to Mrs. Mahama’s words, Nana Asantehemaa expressed gratitude for the visit and prayed for God’s direction in the next elections. She expressed her optimism that Ghana will choose the right leader while acknowledging the competitive nature of the election process.
After her encounter with the Asantehemaa, Mrs. Mahama met behind closed doors with Otumfuo Osei Tutu II to get his approval and blessings before beginning her campaign.
NDC Regional Chairman Nana Kwasi Andrew, former Attorney General and Justice Minister Mrs. Betty Mould Iddrisu, Deputy Director of Communications Obuobia Darko-Opoku, former Deputy Defense Minister Kenneth Adjei, members of the regional women’s wing, and Ashanti region parliamentary candidates were among those who accompanied the former First Lady.
