To guarantee a peaceful election, political parties and their presidential candidates running in the December 7 elections have agreed to a peace pact.
Before, during, and after the election, the parties and their candidates pledged to keep the peace.
All political parties have been asked by the Electoral Commission (EC) to accept the outcome of the next elections.
The public was reassured by Chairperson Jean Mensa that strong safeguards are in place to guarantee free, fair, transparent, and peaceful elections.
Jean Mensa urged trust in the voting process and underlined the significance of a calm and stable atmosphere during the elections while speaking at the signing of the 4th Presidential Election Peace Pact in Accra on Thursday, November 28.
The Commission’s dedication to fostering peace during the election process preceding the general elections in 2024 was reiterated by her.
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, fervently urged political parties, the media, and security forces to maintain peace both during and after the elections. He emphasized that all parties must work together to maintain peace, noting that Ghana has always passed the democratic test in elections.
National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer John Dramani Mahama, meanwhile, voiced worries about the inaction against violent instigators, saying it erodes trust in the peace agreement.
He emphasized that peace agreements must be supported by prompt action or else they run the risk of becoming meaningless.
