John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has received the endorsement of the People’s National Convention (PNC) for the general elections scheduled for December 7.
In an interview on the Ghana Yensom Morning Show, which was co-hosted by Kaayire Kwesi Appea-Apreku and Odehyeeba Kofi Essuman on Accra 100.5 FM on November 28, PNC National Chairman Samson Awingobit declared the endorsement.
The National Executive Committee (NEC) and Functional Executive Committee (FEC) of the party were consulted extensively before the decision, he said.
He claimed that the PNC could not maintain its neutrality, particularly after the Electoral Commission disqualified its presidential candidate.
Therefore, the decision to proclaim support for the NDC was made because the PNC needed to clarify its position before the election.
Without a presidential candidate, the PNC cannot stay neutral with nine days till the general elections.
“As National Chairman, we invited NEC, which consists of our regional representatives, including Chairmen and Secretaries, along with FEC members, to discuss and make this crucial decision after consulting with the leader,” Awingobit said.
“The decision to support NDC was reached by consensus,” he stated.
