Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has promised Ghanaians that if he is elected president in the next election, he will sign the anti-LGBTQ+ bill into law.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has yet to sign the bill, which aims to outlaw LGBTQ+ activities, while legal objections to its constitutionality are being resolved.
On December 18, the Supreme Court is anticipated to render a decision in the case.
Speaking at the Philadelphia Church in Kumasi during a worship session, Dr. Bawumia reiterated his intention to support the measure after all legal proceedings are completed.
“There are many policies or works that are not completed yet. And I know that when I come into power, I will do these works to make sure that everyone is happy.
“There are some policies pending in Parliament which I know are very important to our father. One is the bill for the LGBTQ. When I come to power I will sign it without hesitation and the second thing is the Anti-witchcraft bill.”
