We’ll ensure peaceful resolution to election-related violence – Peace Council

All representatives of political parties have been advised by the National Peace Council (NPC) to pursue legal and peaceful measures of resolving any election-related issues.

Tensions have been raised by the delayed collation of election results for the Eastern Region’s Akwatia, Nsawam-Adoagyiri, and Fanteakwa constituencies.

At the Tesano Training School in the Greater Accra Region, the original idea to compile results at the constituency level was pushed to the regional level and then to the national level.

The Electoral Commission made this decision in response to reports of burning and disturbances at other polling places around the nation that were unrelated to any political party or law enforcement.

“Our understanding is that the Electoral Commission moved the collation of results from Akwatia, Nsawam-Adoagyiri and Fanteakwa constituencies to the regional level and now to the national level due to the widely reported incidents of disruption and arson at other collation centres around the country,” the NPC stated.

The NPC is requesting that the Electoral Commission call an urgent meeting of the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) with political parties and important stakeholders in order to resolve the persisting tensions and reach a consensus.

The public was reassured by the NPC that it is still working with pertinent parties to find a solution and guarantee a calm election process.
