John Dramani Mahama, the president-elect, has reaffirmed his intention to establish a National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving, an annual occasion that will bring Ghanaians together in prayer and appreciation for the country’s achievements and challenges to come.
Mr. Mahama emphasized the significance of setting aside a particular day each year to consider the nation’s journey, express gratitude for its blessings, and seek divine guidance for its ongoing development while speaking at a Thanksgiving service held at the Assemblies of God Church in Accra on Sunday, December 15, 2024.
“I have announced that when I become president, I will institute a National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving every year. Every year as a nation we will take time off to pray and thank God, and I am going to be a significant part of that thanksgiving,” the President-elect stated.
Mr. Mahama emphasized the initiative’s importance in promoting national cohesion and spiritual introspection among Ghanaians.
He emphasized that the nation’s commitment to overcome obstacles and realize its goals would be strengthened by collective prayer and thankfulness.
“A united nation, underpinned by a shared sense of faith, will be better equipped to navigate its challenges and realise its aspirations,” Mahama said.
He added that he thought the National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving will strengthen the spiritual underpinnings necessary for Ghana’s development and prosperity by reinforcing the country’s reliance on God.
The president-elect further conveyed his belief that the project would strengthen the nation’s sense of solidarity and religion while also favorably advancing Ghana and the welfare of its citizens.
