The ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) has made it clear that it is confident it will win 12 unresolved parliamentary seats across the country.
Ablekuma North, Okaikwei Central, Tema Central, Dome Kwabenya, Ano North, Obuasi East, Ano South West, Akwatia, Suhum, Fanteakwa North, Nsawam-Adoagyiri, and Techiman South are among the constituencies in question.
At a news conference on Monday, December 16, 2024, at the NPP headquarters in Accra, the announcement was made.
In the press conference, which was chaired by the party’s electoral and legal affairs committee, issues with the compilation and announcement of parliamentary election results in specific constituencies that have experienced delays and associated disputes were discussed.
Speaking to the media, Peter Mac Manu, a former national chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), urged the Electoral Commission (EC) to promptly resume the collation process in order to guarantee the preservation of the democratic will of the electorate.
In order to resolve any outstanding issues and promote national stability, he asserts that the EC’s intervention is essential.
“We implore the National Election Security Taskforce to provide adequate security to facilitate peaceful collation under a serene environment. We also urge the NDC leadership to rein in their supporters to ensure the process concludes without further disturbances,” he said.
According to the party, their claims of victory in the specified constituencies are supported by information from polling station results, namely the official pink sheets that were turned in following the votes.
“We are very certain that our parliamentary candidates in the above-mentioned constituencies won the elections. This conclusion is based on verifiable data from the pink sheets, as we have consistently demonstrated,” he stated.
In addition, Mac Manu urged all parties involved including the Electoral Commission, political parties, and security services to take immediate action in support of democracy and peace in the country.
He emphasized how crucial it is to honor voters’ expressed will. “We urge the Electoral Commission and all stakeholders to take immediate steps to give effect to the will of voters as expressed in the December polls, in the interest of democracy and the peace of our dear country,” the party stated.
The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) was also criticized by him for allegedly meddling in the collation process. He voiced worries about certain NDC supporters’ behavior, which the party said was a factor in the hold-up in announcing results in these constituencies.
