The public has been reassured by Education Minister Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum that the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) will be made available in the upcoming week.
Speaking to media after a working visit to the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), Dr. Adutwum stated that the examination body was working throughout the festivities to release the results by December 29, 2024.
His remarks on the subject follow WAEC’s announcement that, due to financial limitations and logistical difficulties, it was unable to process this year’s WASSCE results.
The examination body’s ability to release the results of over 460,000 students nationally has been impeded by the government’s debt of over GHC100 million.
According to Dr. Adutwum, half of the results had already been scanned, and the other half will be handled quickly.
“I came to apprise myself of developments in terms of the fact that they are working now through the holidays to get the results out on or before 29th of this month so I came and I saw the workers, scanning is being done, close to 50% is done. They assure me that by the end of the day, 50% of scanning will be completed on or about 29th of this month the results will come out,” Mr Adutwum stated.
The minister assured the media that the release before the end of the month would not be impacted by the millions of dollars in arrears outstanding to WAEC.
“Excuse me, you don’t have the facts,” the minister spat when asked if the government will give WAEC more money.
He clarified that his purpose for visiting the location was to pay a regular visit to the examination body, as he usually does, rather than to discuss the debt problem.
