John Dramani Mahama, the elected president of Ghana, has promised to use his position to promote opportunity, growth, and togetherness for all Ghanaians.

Speaking at Damongo, Savannah Region, during a courtesy call on the Yegbonwura, the Overlord of the Gonja Kingdom, Mahama underlined his dedication to tackling the nation’s urgent issues and improving Ghana for all of its residents.

Mahama referred to the visit as a “homecoming” and used it as a chance to thank the traditional authority for their prayers and support during his victorious election campaign.

He emphasized the importance of their collaboration for Ghana’s advancement and praised the Yegbonwura’s crucial role in mobilizing support for him.

“I am home. This is where I was born many years ago, and I have come back to greet my father and present the victory I have earned to him. It is with his prayers that we have achieved this success,” Mahama said.

Mahama reflected on the traditional leaders’ efforts and their commitment to his cause as he looked back on the path to triumph.

“From the day I sent a delegation led by our party chairman to inform him of my candidacy, I know my father has not rested. He has roamed the country, prayed to our ancestors, and sought support from his fellow chiefs,” he added.

Mahama emphasized that while winning the election was significant, the true challenge lies ahead—restoring the country’s economy and alleviating hardships.

“We all know our economy is in crisis; there is hardship in the land. We need to work hard to turn our fortunes around and create prosperity and dignity for all Ghanaian people,” he stated.

Acknowledging the enormity of the task, Mahama appealed for continued prayers and collaboration from chiefs, imams, and all Ghanaians.

“My father advised me that I cannot handle the country alone. I must select people with good hearts who have the interests of Ghanaians at heart. I pray that God gives me the wisdom to choose the right people to help create economic prosperity.”

The president-elect also emphasized the value of inclusivity and togetherness, calling the election victory a victory for all Ghanaians, not just for himself and his party.

“This electoral success is a win for the whole of Ghana. Even our opponents who participated in the election are winners because we were able to conduct the election successfully,” Mahama said.

Mahama expressed hope for Ghana’s future under his leadership and urged all parties involved to work together to create a peaceful and successful country.
