John Dramani Mahama, the president-elect, has thanked President Nana Akufo-Addo for his assistance in making the transition to his administration go smoothly.
He said that his side of the joint transition team had been suitably briefed for the government in the past few weeks.
As you may remember, President Akufo-Addo called his old political rival to congratulate Mr. Mahama and promise to ensure a smooth transition shortly after the Electoral Commission announced that he had won the 2024 presidential election.
As required by the Presidential Transitions Act (2012), the two parties then formed a transition committee, which was co-chaired by Julius Debrah, a close Mahama aide, and Frema Osei Opare, the chief of staff in the president.
Speaking to the president prior to a planned tour of the Jubilee House, Mr. Mahama expressed gratitude for the cooperation of the departing head of state in maintaining the democratic custom of a seamless transition.
“I want to thank you and your side of the transition team for what has been a cordial and smooth transition. We do think that we are quite ready with the information we have to start work immediately when we finish the inauguration tomorrow,” he said at the Jubilee House.
After their brief meeting, President Akufo-Addo took the president-elect on a tour of a structure that he was extremely familiar with.
Following his inauguration in 2013, Mr. Mahama relocated to the Jubilee House, also known as Flagstaff House, for his tenure in office.
When he came over in 2009, President John Agyekum Kufuor showed him around the building, but his old boss, President John Atta Mills, had refused to move in.
Since the building was designated as the seat of government more than ten years ago, the only leaders of state to occupy it are President Akufo-Addo and Mr. Mahama. The Christianborg Castle in Osu served as the workplace for the former heads of state.
