The Speaker of Ghana’s Eighth Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has promised to be completely committed to his position if elected Speaker of the Ninth Parliament.
He made this promise in response to President-elect John Dramani Mahama’s order for Bagbin to be nominated by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) legislative leadership.
Bagbin’s vast parliamentary experience and leadership abilities were emphasized by the president-elect, who expressed confidence in his capacity to effectively manage the legislative body.
Bagbin expressed sincere appreciation to the President-elect, the NDC leadership, and the party’s legislative executives for giving him this important role in his nomination.
“I am deeply humbled by His Excellency’s confidence in my ability to lead the august House as we begin a new chapter in our nation’s democratic journey,” he stated.
Reflecting on his long-standing commitment to governance, he added:
“Throughout my years of service to Parliament and the people of Ghana, I have always remained loyal to Ghana and committed to the principles of justice, fairness, and respect for the rule of law.”
Bagbin assured Ghanaians that as Speaker, he would uphold these principles, striving for a transparent, inclusive, and integrity-driven Parliament.
“I will, more than before, rededicate myself fully to the task ahead, working to strengthen our democratic institutions and ensuring that Parliament remains an effective and responsive institution to the needs and hopes of the people,” he promised.
Bagbin also thanked the Parliamentary Leadership and National Executives of the NDC for allowing him to run for a second term.
He committed to working hard to further Ghana’s democracy and legislative advancement, promising to live up to the faith that had been placed in him.
