The appointments of all Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCES) made by the previous administration have been revoked by President John Dramani Mahama, with immediate effect.
When the new government takes office, the Mahama administration hopes to reorganize local governance to better align with its policy objectives.
The Local Government Acts of 2016 (Act 936), as modified by the Local Government (Amendment) Act, 2017 (Act 940), gave President Mahama the right to revoke. The MMDCES and assembly members’ appointments made in accordance with the applicable Act provisions have been revoked.
The decision was communicated in a letter signed by the Secretary to the President, Callistus Mahama.
