Today, Monday, January 13, 2025, Parliament will begin the process of vetting the first round of cabinet nominees that President John Dramani Mahama has submitted.
The current Majority Leader and Member of Parliament for Ajumako-Enyan-Esiam, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, who has been nominated as the Minister-designate for Finance, will be scrutinized first in the vetting process.
The nomination of Ato Forson coincides with calls for sustainable economic changes, high inflation, and growing public debt as issues facing Ghana’s economy.
The Appointments Committee of Parliament, which was established on January 9, 2025, will fulfill this constitutional obligation.
The committee’s next agenda item is John Abdulai Jinapor, who has been proposed as the Energy Minister-designate.
It is anticipated that Jinapor, a seasoned politician and former Deputy Minister of Energy, will tackle Ghana’s urgent energy-related problems, such as unstable electricity supplies, the growth of renewable energy sources, and energy sector debt.
Information about his plans to stabilize and change the industry to satisfy the demands of an expanding economy will be revealed by his due diligence.
As the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice-designate, Dr. Dominic Akuritinga Ayine is anticipated to be the final candidate to appear before the Appointments Committee.
The member of parliament from Bolgatanga East, a seasoned attorney, scholar, and former Deputy Attorney-General, is renowned for his knowledge of government and constitutional law.
He is expected to play a crucial role in upholding justice for all Ghanaians, addressing legal reforms, and advancing the rule of law in his capacity as the government’s chief legal advisor.
