Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the Finance Minister-designate, has denied rumors that he plans to ask the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for further funding.
Dr. Forson acknowledged that media accounts had misconstrued his remarks during his screening before the Appointments Committee of Parliament on Monday, January 13.
“I didn’t say I was going to request additional finance from the IMF,” he stated.
“It’s inaccurate reportage. What I said was that we could request additional finance if the need arises.”
Dr. Forson emphasized that his comments were only hypothetical and dependent on what happens in the future.
The Finance Minister-designate clarified that the purpose of his remarks was to emphasize how crucial flexibility is to the country’s economic management.
He said that while it shouldn’t be completely ruled out, the prospect of requesting more IMF assistance would only be considered if the situation called for it.
In order to prevent needless public misunderstanding, Dr. Forson asked the media to be careful when publishing his remarks.
He emphasized his dedication to responsible financial management and promised to look into every possible avenue to guarantee the nation’s economic stability.
