The Ghana Football Association’s (GFA) bylaws have been amended to allow for three terms as president instead of the previous two.
The Association’s 31st Ordinary Congress, which was held in Prampram, is where the decision was made. The Congress, which is called by Article 31(2) of the GFA Statutes (2019), is held every year before to the football season to discuss progress, provide financial and activity reports, and establish strategic goals for the sport in Ghana.
To discuss important governance concerns, representatives from all 124 member entities convened in the 2025 Congress.
According to the accepted change, a GFA president may hold office for a maximum of three four-year terms, or 12 years, in accordance with FIFA and the Confederation of African Football (CAF) laws.
The GFA states that the reform is intended to facilitate the implementation of long-term development objectives by fostering stability and continuity in leadership.
With two years left in his second term, incumbent GFA President Kurt Okraku may be directly impacted by the reform, which FIFA has apparently approved.
