Government declares Monday public holiday for Founder’s Day

Monday, September 22, 2025, has been proclaimed a holiday by government via the Ministry of the Interior. This was notified in a statement signed by the Minister for the Interior Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak.

The Ministry claims that this is done in honor of Founder’s Day.

The Ministry said in a statement released on Wednesday that the holiday, which was initially planned for Sunday, September 21, falls on a weekend.

In accordance with Section 2 of the Public Holidays and Commemorative Days Act (Act 601), as amended, President John Mahama has announced the following Monday as an extra holiday by an Executive Instrument.

The statement’s signatory, Interior Minister Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, called on everyone to observe the day across the country.

“The general public is hereby informed that Sunday, 21st September 2025, marks Founder’s Day,which is a Statutory Public Holiday,” the statement opened.

“However, in view of the fact that 21st September 2025 falls on a Sunday, His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Ghana, has, by Executive Instrument (E.I), in accordance with Section 2 of the Public Holidays and Commemorative Days Act (Act 601), as amended, declared Monday, 22ndSeptember 2025, as Additional Public Holiday and should be observed as such throughout the country,” the statement explained, in conclusion.
