Nine months after taking office, former President Akufo-Addo has blasted the Mahama-led government, claiming that the NDC’s failures are giving the NPP a chance to win back power in the 2028 elections.
The former president stated that the NPP’s track record in administration offers a solid basis for its comeback to power while speaking during the launching of a new party office for the Bantama constituency, headed by MP Francis Asenso-Boakye.
“You saw the great works under me and Ex-President Kufuor. We did a lot, and these will serve as our campaign tools to reclaim power. You are all witnesses to what is happening under this current administration. Things aren’t going well,” Akufo-Addo told supporters.
Many Ghanaians who did not cast ballots in the most recent election now regret their choice, said NPP General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong, echoing the sentiment. He urged members to put unity first and fix previous errors as the party prepares for its 2026 flagbearer contest.
“After voting, we must fix the wrongdoings in our party before heading into the next contest,” He added that in order to put itself in a solid position for the 2028 elections, the NPP needs to start a vigorous campaign following the primaries.
Traditional leaders, NPP Loyal Ladies members, constituency executives, and senior party officials attended the occasion. The Bantama office was praised as an example of successful party structure and grassroots empowerment.
In his speech, former President John Agyekum Kufuor urged unity and discipline among the candidates. He advised candidates to make sure their supporters don’t hear insults and warned them against using divisive language.
“The aspirants should be mindful of what they say. Let’s lead by example and put the interest of the country first. Political service must ultimately be service to the nation,” the enthusiastic turnout was praised by the party faithful, who said it demonstrated their devotion to and support for the NPP’s cause.
