The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) has revealed updated tariff changes for electricity and water, starting January 1, 2026, after its multi-year tariff evaluation process spanning 2026 to 2030.
Electricity rates will increase by 9.86 percent for all customer groups, while water rates will experience a 15.92 percent hike during the five-year control period.
The Commission stated that the modifications were essential to fulfill the investment needs of utility companies, maintain industry competitiveness, and protect consumer interests.
The evaluation also includes quarterly modifications to consider elements outside the influence of service providers, such as exchange rate changes, inflation, fuel expenses, and generation composition.
Furthermore, mini-grid tariffs have been implemented to facilitate electricity access in island communities, with expenses included in the Volta River Authority’s revenue requirements.
PURC highlighted that the choice was made after thorough stakeholder consultations, public hearings, and assessments of utility proposals.
The Commission committed to ongoing oversight of service providers to guarantee efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and compliance with regulatory standards.
