The Minister of Justice and Attorney-General, Dr. Dominic Ayine, has revealed that his office has officially started extradition processes against former Finance Minister Mr. Kenneth Ofori-Atta and Mr. Ernest Darko Akore, a former Chief of Staff at the Ministry of Finance.
Dr. Ayine stated that the extradition request was forwarded to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on December 10, 2025, for further transmission to the United States Department of Justice, where the two suspects are thought to be residing.
During a press conference in the Government Accountability Series, the Attorney-General stated that the request was submitted once the concerns highlighted in the original extradition documents were completely resolved by the Office of the Special Prosecutor.
He remarked that with the request now formally submitted, it is up to the appropriate authorities in the United States, especially the judicial system, to decide if the legal criteria for extradition have been satisfied.
Dr. Ayine also revealed that Mr. Ofori-Atta and seven other people are confronting a combined total of 78 charges concerning alleged crimes under scrutiny.
The advancement represents an important milestone in the government’s initiatives to seek accountability and guarantee due process in prominent financial and governance-related matters.
