The Kingmakers of the Asante Mampong Traditional Council have formally presented a nominee for the Amaniampong Silver Stool to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi.

The presentation, which took place on December 18, 2025, followed the resolution of internal disputes that had delayed the succession process. Accompanied by the Queen of Asante Mampong, Nana Agyakoma Difie II, the kingmakers introduced Leslie Osei Bonsu, a senior software architect and geospatial systems strategist, as the successor to the late Daasebre Osei Bonsu II.

In accordance with Asante tradition, the delegation presented traditional schnapps to the Asantehene and explained that the nominee had successfully completed all required customary rites and processes leading to his nomination.

Addressing the delegation, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II directed the kingmakers to fix a suitable date for the enstoolment and ensure the nominee is properly taken through traditional and customary education. He emphasized that the enstoolment alone does not confer authority to rule until allegiance is formally sworn to the Golden Stool.

The Asantehene also disclosed that he had received an objection petition from the Botaasehene concerning the succession process. He noted that the matter had been considered and resolved, and instructed the kingmakers to officially inform the petitioner of the outcome.

During the interaction, the absence of the Akwamuhene was noted. The kingmakers explained that he was currently receiving medical treatment abroad. Otumfuo directed that the Akwamuhene must be present during the swearing of the oath of allegiance of the nominee, warning that failure to do so would be interpreted as abdication.

Earlier, on December 15, 2025, leaders of the Asante Mampong Traditional Council appeared before the Asantehene and the Asanteman Council over disagreements related to the succession. The intervention of Otumfuo resolved the matter and cleared the way for the continuation of the process.

The kingmakers also assured the Asantehene of renewed unity within the Asante Mampong Traditional Council, confirming peaceful coexistence with the Queen following the settlement of all outstanding issues.
